The founder of EGP Bartalis Ltd., Mr. Tamás József Bartalis, graduated from Budapest in the early 1980s with a degree in economics, specializing in foreign trade. His first and also last job as a merchant in foreign trade in his home country Hungary was Lignimpex - the monopoly company for paper, wood and oil products. His task was to market Hungarian paper and printing products in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.

Due to political disputes with superiors and leading functionaries of the communist party he had to leave Hungary in 1988.

After his naturalization in Hamburg in 1989 and the associated granting of a work permit, Mr. Bartalis was able to use his existing business contacts. First in Wiesbaden, then in Hanau and finally in Bühl/Baden he took over various tasks at paper trading companies.

The wish to be able to act completely independently was realised in 2002. EGP Bartalis GmbH was founded, initially with two employees and an annual volume of 5,000 tonnes.

During this time EGP was specialised in B-business (secondary lines, excess quantities, re-rolled goods).

In 2008 EGP was mainly active in the German, French and Benelux markets. Close cooperation was established through successful collaboration with suppliers and customers.

In 2012, B-quality volumes declined significantly due to restructuring in the paper industry and factory closures. EGP was able to use the trust gained from customers and suppliers to build up another mainstay with A-quality volumes.

Starting in 2014, business with A-quality volumes, a large proportion of which was PEFC and FSC certified, increased significantly. In the years 2014-2020, EGP realized a trading volume of 150,000-200,000 tons of paper per year with 10 employees by now.
